SHANE HUFFMAN TAPPED TO RUN FOR KEY MOTORSPORTS
IN KROGER 200 TRUCK SERIES RACE AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (October 13, 2006) – JR Motorsports NASCAR Busch Series driver Shane Huffman has been tapped by Key Motorsports to drive its No. 40 Chevrolet Silverado in next weekend’s Kroger 200 race at the Martinsville Speedway.

Team owner Curtis W. Key Sr., who last week had veteran NASCAR driver Derrike Cope behind the wheel of his team’s race truck at Talladega because of Cope’s vast experience running in the draft on the super speedways, is this time looking to Huffman’s ability on the short tracks to carry the Key Motorsports fortunes at Martinsville.10mt11.JPG (132462 bytes)

“Shane has been virtually unbeatable in short track racing the last few seasons in the Hooters Pro Cup Series. He must have been doing something right in being recently named by Dale Earnhardt Jr. to drive the JR Motorsports, No. 88 Navy Chevrolet for the remaining races on the 2006 Busch Series schedule,” Key explained.

“We (Key and crew chief Barry Dodson) talked to a bunch of different drivers before making this decision and believe that this is the best move for our truck team at this time. We believe that Shane has the ability to do with our truck on the short track at Martinsville what Derrike was able to do last week at Talladega, and that was to run up front,” Key added.

This will be the first Craftsman Truck Series race of Huffman’s career. So far in 2006 he has run six Busch Series events, earning his best finish of 21st at the Kansas Speedway earlier this month.

“We could have easily had a (Nextel) Cup driver in our truck at Martinsville, but that meant having a driver who had to split his focus – some on the Cup deal and then on ours. At least Shane will be able to totally concentrate and focus on our truck at Martinsville, and being a rookie, he will have an extra practice session to get used to how the truck drives as opposed to a car because there is a difference,” Dodson said.

“From what I have seen in both Hooters Pro Cup races and in the Busch Series so far, Shane appears to be the real deal and not just a short track ace. We feel the responsibility to run well with him, not just to represent Key Motorsports but also JR Motorsports, and Shane goes in there with nothing to concentrate on except the truck. I think he’ll adapt real well.”

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity for some increased seat time as we continue to ramp up for our 2007 NASCAR Busch Series season effort with JR Motorsports,” Huffman said. “The U.S. Navy supported the concept, and I have to thank them. It’s rare in this sport to have a sponsor that understands and supports the idea of me gaining as much experience as possible.”

The 32-year-old Huffman won four of the 11 USAR Hooters Pro Cup races he entered this season before being tabbed to drive the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in August. He also collected two pole awards and eight top-five finishes, and finished second in the Southern Division point standings despite missing the regular season finale. Huffman was the Hooters Pro Cup Southern Division champion in 2005, winning nine of 21 races.
