KEY MOTORSPORTS UNDERGOING FACE LIFT

The Key Motorsports, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series organization is undergoing a facelift.

Team founder and President Curtis Key has made several key personnel changes within the organization as the team continues to build itself into a contending force in the Craftsman Truck Series with its #40 Chevrolet Silverado.

Veteran and noted crew chief and mechanic Barry Dodson was named to that position, succeeding Lance Hooper, while mechanic Skeet Skierski has also joined the Key Motorsports family after a successful tenure as car chief for Shane Huffman in the Hooters Pro Cup/USAR Late Model Series.

In addition, an expansion of the Key Motorsports race shop in the new Performance Park located just off of Shinn Farm Road and Highway 152 East in Mooresville, North Carolina is in the home stretch. The expansion includes a doubling of the shop’s existing office space, a new conference room and revamped reception area, and the creation of an all-purpose business center area.

“We continue to move forward and are doing the things necessary for this race organization to become a leading force in NASCAR racing”, Key stated. “Adding someone with the experience and track record of a Barry Dodson will certainly elevate the awareness of our team and hopefully will improve our competitiveness”, Key added.

Having been a team owner in the NASCAR Busch Series for nine years (1991 through 1999), and then turning his sights on the Craftsman Truck Series when he returned to the racing industry in 2003, Key believes that changes are needed if his team is to get to the level he craves.

“Racing in general is a tough business”, Key said. “But in NASCAR, the competition for sponsorship dollars, experienced people, the best equipment and the best drivers is so severe that you continually have to evaluate everything to make sure that you are on the right track. The changes we are now making will only make us stronger and in better shape to accomplish our goals”, he added.

Veteran driver Chad Chaffin will again be behind the wheel of the Key Motorsports entry at Martinsville.
