MILLER REPLACES HUFFMAN IN #40 WESTERMAN COMPANIES CHEVY
FOR KEY MOTORSPORTS’ O’REILLY RACEWAY PARK RUN ON FRIDAY
MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA (July 25, 2007) - With Shane Huffman involved in contract discussions with JR Motorsports following his dismissal from that team’s NASCAR Busch Series program, Key Motorsports has again been forced to change drivers for this weekend’s race.
Team owner Curtis W. Key, Sr. announced today that he has tapped Brandon Miller to replace Huffman as driver of the #40 Westerman Companies Chevrolet Silverado in Friday night’s Power Stroke Diesel 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.
“Shane has not been able to work out his situation with JR Motorsports to the point that he could drive for us this weekend, so putting Brandon behind the wheel was the logical choice,” Key said.
“Brandon did a really good job for us in the Kentucky race a couple weeks back in subbing for Chad Chaffin and then followed that up with a good performance on Monday at the Bristol test. When Shane indicated that he could not run for us this weekend, I didn’t hesitate to reward Brandon for the job he has done by naming him to race our truck
for the Westerman Companies folks in Indianapolis,” Key added.
Key confessed that he has been pressured by his Director of Competition, Tommy Morgan, and Crew Chief Gary Showalter to give Miller another shot, and the opportunity Key gave the 25-year-old San Diego, CA native this weekend is something that Morgan believes is justified.
“Brandon has been a very pleasant surprise for us, and we are thrilled to give him this opportunity to show that he has the talent and skills to become a top driver in this Series,” Morgan explained. “He did a good job for us in Kentucky a few weeks back even though I did hold him back some. He also really did a great job in our Bristol test.
He was consistent, provided excellent feedback and hasn’t let the fact that he hadn’t raced in a competitive NASCAR situation since 2005 bother him,” Morgan added.
“The kid is just good and everyone on the team really likes the way he conducts himself and works with them,” said Showalter. “I know that he will only get better with every lap he runs for us, and you can tell that a lot of the rust he had from competitive racing inactivity is gradually starting to wear off. We expect good things from him,”
Showalter added.
The Indianapolis race is the second of four for Key Motorsports under sponsorship from the Westerman Companies, the Bremen, Ohio-based manufacturer of products for the oil, gas and nuclear industries. Kentucky was the first event in which Miller ran a very conservative race as Chaffin’s late replacement but still managed to post a 19th place
finish and just one lap in arrears. It was Miller’s first NCTS race since 2004 and his first in a major NASCAR touring series since he drove 11 races for Richard Childress Racing in the Busch Series in 2005.
Miller has remained an integral part of the RCR race prep team ever since, having been a regular test driver for the organization the last two years.
“I am truly excited to be given another chance at driving for Key Motorsports,” Miller said. “I really like Gary and Tommy, and they have top notch equipment. I want to finally show them what I really can do and getting the chance at Indianapolis will hopefully allow me to do that,” he added.
