INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY
Mike Bliss drove the Westerman Chevrolet/Key Motorsports Chevrolet to a
19th-place finish in the Subway Jalapeno 400 Friday night at Daytona Intenational Speedway, accomplishing several goals set by the No. 40 team, in race number 17 on the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule.
Arriving at the World Center of Racing with a newly constructed, and untested, COT car the Westerman Companies/Key Motorsports team participated in both Thursday practice sessions, producing a fast lap at 178.130 mph during a nine lap run in the first session.

Securing the 28th starting position with a qualifying lap at 179.379 mph, the hard-working No. 40 crew focused their energies toward bringing the new car home with a respectable finish.
"We had several goals for the Daytona race," shared team owner Curtis Key. "We wanted to learn as much as we could about the new car, we wanted to qualify in, finish in the top-25 and bring the car home in one piece so we can work on making it faster instead of building another car."
Bliss executed the team's race strategy perfectly, driving conservatively for the first 75 laps before becoming more aggressive in the final 25. Holding down the 26th spot at the halfway point of the 100-lap event, the Oregon native was scored 27th on lap 80, gaining eight positions in the
final 20 laps to secure a top-20 finish.

"The car drove good, we are real pleased with it," said Bliss. "We wanted to have a good race for Westerman Companies and to have a car to work on next week and were able to do that, so we're happy."
Key Motorsports crew chief Gary Showalter offered, "I am real impressed with our guys and the way the car ran at Daytona. We didn't make it to the COT test and didn't have any notes to go off of so we used a different strategy for the race and it worked for us. Mike is happy with the
car and everyone did a great job."
