CONSISTENT PACE EARNS 13TH PLACE FINISH FOR WESTERMAN COMPANIES/KEY MOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET IN KROGER 200 AT O’REILLY RACEWAY PARK

Mike Bliss captured another 13th place finish in the green-colored Westerman Companies Chevrolet Saturday night in the Kroger 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series event at O’Reilly Raceway Park, running a consistent pace throughout the event to bring the No. 40 team its fourth top-15 result of the 2010 season. The color green, recognized as unlucky by many racing competitors, dominates the Westerman Companies paint scheme, also worn at Richmond in April, where the Key Motorsports team produced a solid 13th place effort.

The Westerman Companies pit crew unloaded a new car for driver Mike Bliss at ORP, a track the Oregon native is certainly familiar with after having visited Victory Lane there a dozen times in USAC competition. Taking to the track for practice Saturday morning, crew chief Gary Showalter carefully monitored the progress of the No. 40 during its 22 lap run in the opening session with the Westerman Companies Chevrolet posted 13th on the scoreboard after circling the 0.686-mile oval at an average speed of 106.826 mph. Stepping up in Happy Hour, veterans Bliss and Showalter combined to push the No. 40 up to 11th on the leaderboard with an increased average speed of 107.753 mph recorded on lap seven of their eight lap excursion in the final session.

Lining up 24th on the 43-car grid, Bliss took the Westerman Companies Chevrolet on a forward journey from the start, occupying a position in the top-twenty in the first 20 laps of the 200 scheduled. Holding a steady position in the running order, Bliss maneuvered car No. 40 into the top-15 on lap 140 after making adjustments on pit road, bringing the Key Motorsports prepared entry to the finish line unscathed with a lead lap finish.

“The car got better there at the end,” offered Bliss. “The crew did a good job on pit road tonight, they made some changes that really helped the car. We had fresher tires on that last restart and I feel sure if we had one more lap of racing, I could have brought home a top 10 finish in this brand new Westerman Companies Chevrolet. This car saw the track for the first time when we unloaded here, I can't say enough about the dedication and preparation Key Motorsports is putting on the track week in and week out. We appreciate Westerman Companies being on board with us in Indianapolis this weekend.”

Showalter and the crew continue to gain momentum with cars that have been recently constructed at the Key Motorsports shop in Mooresville, North Carolina.

“This is a new car we brought to ORP this weekend,” explained crew chief Gary Showalter. “We didn’t know what the characteristics of the car would be and all in all it did pretty well. We had to make a couple of adjustments on two pit stops and that picked us up in the last fifty laps or so. Mike brought the car home in good shape and the crew did a great job keeping us in the game. Mike likes the way this car drove in the race here at ORP so we are going to take it to Iowa next week and build on it.”

Key Motorsports team owner Curtis Key extended his appreciation to Westerman Companies and the members of the race team for their efforts at ORP.

“We thank Westerman Companies for their support this weekend at O’Reilly Raceway Park,” said Key. “We could not ask for a better partner than Westerman and they continue to be a big part of our program. I appreciate everyone at Key Motorsports working together and doing a good job for Westerman and all of our other partners as well.”

Key Motorsports returns to NASCAR Nationwide Series action with driver Mike Bliss on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Iowa Speedway.
