DETERMINATION DRIVES JANSENCHEVROLET.COM / KEY MOTORSPORTS TO THIRD CONSECUTIVE TOP-20
AMIDST CHAOS AND DESTRUCTION
AT GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
July 19, 2010 (Mooresville, NC) Mike Bliss avoided several close calls Saturday night in the wild Nationwide Series event at Gateway International Raceway, a
race that saw 40% of the 43-car starting field in the garage area by the end of the 200-lap battle. Emerging from the chaos and destruction with a top-20 finish
and an intact race car to show for the efforts of JansenChevrolet.com and the Key Motorsports team, Gateway marks the third consecutive week of top-twenty finishes for the independent organization after placing in the top half of the field at Daytona and Chicagoland.
The JansenChevrolet.com/Key Motorsports No. 40 consistently moved forward from its 39th spot at the drop of the green with Bliss gaining nine positions within the first ten laps. The Oregon native guided the Chevrolet Impala into the top-25 by lap 60 and continued ahead to the top-20 some one hundred laps later.
Narrowly avoiding disaster in the form of a collision with Justin Allgaier on lap 194, Bliss escaped the spinning 12 car and ensuing three-car pileup by mere inches. Calling on years of experience during the last lap melee involving Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski, the veteran picked his way through the mangled mass of machines that littered the
racing surface following Keselowski’s trip into oncoming traffic to finish 19th.
“Our Jansen Chevrolet car ran good, we were hoping for a better finish but we’ll take it,” said Bliss. “We were glad to get through everything there at the end and keep the car together.”
Key Motorsports crew chief Gary Showalter pointed out that while the result at Gateway did not justify the energy expended, the team gained more than they lost during their mid-west adventure.
“The car we used at Gateway is the car we wrecked at Darlington in May,” explained Showalter. “This is the first time we have had it at the track since it was repaired and it didn’t do what we expected it to. The car raced better than it qualified and we were able to make some adjustments that helped. The guys
did a good job with pit stops, Mike did a good job in the race. We were fortunate to get through the mess at the end, we have a car to take home and we picked up some notes that will help us when we come back in the fall.”
“We want to thank everyone at JansenChevrolet.com for supporting Key Motorsports at Gateway,” said team owner Curtis Key. “They have been around a long time and we are proud to be affiliated with them. We appreciate JansenChevrolet.com providing an opportunity that enabled us to have a competitive run Saturday
night. They are a great group.”
Key Motorsports heads to O’Reilly Motorsports Park at Indianapolis occupying 22nd in NASCAR Nationwide Series owner points. Mike Bliss is currently ranked 18th in Nationwide driver points.
